Helsinki After Work – An Evening at Kanavaranta
There are two ways to end a workday. Go straight home. Or take a detour to Katajanokka.
Shelter is at Kanavaranta 7, a five-minute walk from Market Square. On Tuesdays, a guest DJ plays on the terrace from 17:30 to 21:30. On Thursdays, Helsinki after work starts early — the terrace opens at 16:00.
The kitchen serves until 21:30, and until 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays in June and August.
Thursday after work from 16:00
Thursday is Shelter's official after work day. We're running after work deals in May and early June: 28 May, 4 June and 11 June.
The terrace opens at 16:00, with deals running until 18:00. Offers change each week and cover both food and drinks — including the summer Strawberry Spritz. The indoor dining room opens at 17:00.

Tuesdays belong to the DJ
Every Tuesday this summer, a guest DJ plays on the terrace from 17:30 to 21:30.
Sea views, evening sun, cold drinks. If the night runs longer than planned, the kitchen is open all evening — you can come for just a drink or sit down for a full five-course dinner.

The terrace faces west
The terrace is west-facing, which means it gets the afternoon sun longest. People tend to stay longer than they planned.
Katajanokka and Kanavaranta draw both Helsinki locals and visitors. From the terrace, you can watch boats, people, and whatever the harbour brings.

Larger group?
Helsinki after work plans have a way of growing. If your group is five or more, a reservation in advance makes sense. Shelter can also arrange a fully private space if the occasion calls for it.

When does Shelter run after work deals?
On Thursdays. The terrace opens at 16:00 (weather permitting), the indoor dining room at 17:00. Deals run until 18:00.
When does the DJ play?
Every Tuesday from 17:30 to 21:30, May through August. Shelter is closed on Midsummer, 19–21 June.
Do I need to book a table?
We recommend it, especially for larger groups or later in the week. You're also welcome to come without a reservation — our team will always do their best to find you a spot.
Can I come just for a drink?
Absolutely. The terrace is for dinner guests and those who just want a glass or two alike.
Where is Shelter and how do I get there?
Kanavaranta 7, Katajanokka. Five minutes on foot from Market Square. Reachable by bike, tram, bus, or ferry — including from Suomenlinna and Kruunuvuorenranta.
What are Shelter's opening hours?
Monday to Saturday, the dining room is open 17:00 to midnight. Kitchen closes at 21:30, and at 22:00 on Fridays and Saturdays in June and August. On Thursdays the after work terrace opens from 16:00.
