Restaurant Shelter is looking for a cook
to join the kitchen team for summer 2026
Restaurant Shelter has been serving guests at Kanavaranta in Helsinki since 2016. The restaurant is co-owned by Teemu Laurell and Lennart Sukapää, who also run Restaurant Teller and Tales Wine Bar in Etu-Töölö, Helsinki.
At Shelter's kitchen, we work with heart and passion. Our food celebrates the flavours of the season, and we aim to bring something new to every dish. Over the years, the kitchen has created beloved classics, from bread that's been called the best in the city to our acclaimed tartare, grilled dishes and irresistible desserts.
We welcome guests for dinner Monday through Saturday across two floors; the atmospheric downstairs dining room seats 78 and the upstairs room 55. In summer, we also open our relaxed 100-seat sun terrace by the sea with full table service.
The role
We are looking for a skilled cook for a fixed-term position during the summer season of 2026. The contract runs from the beginning of June until the end of August. Working hours can be arranged as either part-time (90 h per three-week period) or full-time (112.5 h per three-week period).
Our aim is to offer part-time work also beyond the summer, into autumn 2026.
As a cook, you will work alongside the rest of the kitchen team to ensure high-quality dishes, smooth service and efficient daily operations. Your responsibilities include careful handling of ingredients, dish preparation and plating, maintaining a clean and organised workstation and collaborating with the rest of the staff.
We expect a proactive and responsible approach, strong organisational skills and the ability to perform well under pressure. We value professional pride, a genuine interest in seasonal ingredients and a desire to develop your skills.
The restaurant is open for dinner Monday to Saturday, so shifts are primarily in the evenings and on weekends. The exact starting date is flexible.
What we expect
A vocational qualification in the restaurant industry or culinary training
At least 2 years of experience working in a dinner restaurant
An exemplary attitude and drive to aim for the best
Ability to work in a team and in a fast-paced environment
Excellent Finnish or English language skills
